For evaluations, the process through the Danish Health Technology Council consists of three phases.
These are:
1. The proposal phase
2. The evaluation phase
3. The follow-up phase

The individual elements of the three phases are described in more detail further down.

The proposal phase

The Danish Health Technology Council no longer accepts evaluation proposals from companies with the aim of initiating new evaluations from September 2024, as the Danish Health Technology Council's industry track will close as of 1st of August 2024, prior to the transition to the Institute for Quality in Healthcare.

The information below remains relevant for ongoing evaluations, as already initiated and active evaluations will be completed during 2025.

The evaluation phase

In the evaluation phase, several elements are initiated at the same time: the establishment of an expert committee and the preparation of an evaluation design and of an application. The expert committee participates in determining the evaluation design, and the application cannot be finalised by the applicant until the final evaluation design is published.

Work on the assessment report commences when the application has been submitted. When the assessment report has been completed, it is submitted for consultation with the applicant and the comparator (if a single comparator/company has been appointed). After this, the Council makes its recommendation concerning the health technology in question.

The follow-up phase

The last phase is the follow-up phase, in which the Council either decides to recommend the health technology, to not recommend the health technology, or to recommend it for knowledge acquisition. If the Council recommends the health technology for knowledge acquisition, the Danish Health Technology Council’s work continues. If, on the other hand, the Council either recommend or does not recommend the health technology, then the five Danish regions will be responsible for implementing the recommendation in their respective regions.
